1925 Biography - W Spence

Honorable W. A. Spence was born and reared in Massac County, but has been a teacher and pastor in this county so frequently that we feel he is closely connected with our history. He was left an orphan at an early age but has made a place for himself among the educators and men of affairs in this state. He followed teaching for several years, entering the ministry of the Baptist Church when quite young. He has served as State Senator from this district and is a resident of Metropolis. He married Ada Fogg and they have one daughter, Mignon, who is quite talented in music and one son. They are living at present in Springfield, Ill., where Mr. Spence is on the staff of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and also has charge of a church of that city.
