Obituary - Bonita Casey

Buncombe – Bonita Casey, 86, passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2014, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

She was born May 23, 1928, in Williamson County, the daughter of Bon and Gladys (Davis) Watkins.

Bonita was united in marriage July 20, 1946, in Cypress to Edwin Casey, and he preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1990.

Survivors include her children, Max (Betty) Casey of Buncombe and LaRaye (Jay) Franklin of Goreville; six grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Ames of Anna, Terry Sue (Troy) Norris of Buncombe, Shane (Kristy) Casey of Buncombe, Brook (Adam) Harrawood of Harrisburg, Josh (Brittney) Franklin of Cobden and Dana Harris of Carbondale; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bon Watkins and Gladys Watkins Parks; husband, Edwin Casey; son, Terry Casey; sister, Geraldine Bearden; and stepfather, Randolph "Dolph" Parks.

During the 1940s, Bonita taught at Mount Pleasant and Mount Pisgah public schools. She was a homemaker and proud of the fact that she had resided in the same home for 76 years.

She enjoyed gardening, as well as watching and taking care of the birds and squirrels in her yard. She stocked and maintained fish ponds and inside aquariums, and she loved her faithful canine companion, Bella.

Bonita was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, near Cypress, and a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Cemetery Board.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with Pastor Jay Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
