Obituary - Bessie L. Cavitt

Grantsburg – Bessie L. Cavitt, 91, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, in Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Bessie was born Oct. 3, 1916, in Simpson Township in Johnson County. She was the daughter of John Franklin Ross and Hattie A. (Smith Ross. Bessie was raised in the home of Orlan and Grace Cox.

Bessie was united in marriage to Paul C. Cavitt on Aug. 12, 1934 in Johnson County. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1998.

Survivors include a son, John Cavitt and wife, Michelle, of Grantsburg; a daughter, Susan Trovillion and husband, Danny Joe, of Grantsburg; five grandchildren, Joel Paul Trovillion and wife, Tracy, Trista Black and husband, Mark, Tawny Bennett, Jud Ramsey Trovillion and Tara Manzano and husband, Eric; and two great-grandchildren, Payton Bennett and Jaxton Black.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bessie was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey Ross and Frank Ross and two sisters, Grace Cox and Delo Pender.

Bessie was a graduate of the Johnson County public school system. She worked for many years as a clerk and pharmaceutical assistant at Brown's Drug Store in Vienna. Bessie loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was an excellent cook and homemaker.

Bessie was a former member of Egyptian Chapter 30 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Vienna First Baptist Church and was instrumental in the development of the church clothes closet program.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, in Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, with Dr. Ed Hollis officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may cal from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
